Avianna - Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley 2018 Youth of the Year Representative Avianna - Boys & Girls Club 2018 Youth of the Year Mar 4, 2019 Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley selects an outstanding young person to receive its local Youth of the Year Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs. This award recognizes commendable character, academic achievement and outstanding volunteer service to a member’s Club and community. At our March 4, 2019 meeting, Avianna shared her story by way of the speech she will be presenting at the state Boys & Girls Club competition next week in Madison.

Lynn Barrie from Junior Achievement accepts a $500.00 check from Rotary Club president Wes Escondo. The donation will ensure that one classroom of students will receive Junior Achievement programming during this school year. Barrie is JA's Marketing & Development Director for Northwest Wisconsin. Rotarians in Costume to Raise Money for Polio Plus Oct 26, 2015 For our October 26 meeting, members responded to a challenge to dress in Halloween costumes to help raise money for Polio Plus... Rotary's program to eradicate polio from the face of the earth. The amount raised was $898.00.

After some punch, fellowship, and a delicious meal, we were entertained by Gordon Murphy, who played some traditional Christmas favorites on the keyboard. Gordon is from the Chippewa Valley Symphony.
Mandi Wurtzel and Sawyer Thiel, our Rotary Outbound Exchange Studemts Rotary Exchange Student Picnic (Aug 2012) Aug 5, 2012 Mandi Wurtzel, our 2011-12 Outbound Youth Exchange student, recently returned from her year in Finland, and within the next few weeks, Sawyer Thiel will be leaving Eau Claire for her exchange year in France. In honor of their Youth Exchange experiences, Tom and Darla McCarty along with Robin Shih, our Club’s Youth Exchange Officer, hosted a cookout. About 50 Rotarians, students, and family members got together for lots of good food and fellowship. Thank you McCartys and thank you Robin.

Recognition & Installation Celebration (July 2012) Jul 9, 2012 As each Rotary year comes to a close, our members and guests enjoy a banquet where we recognize our member accomplishments and install the officers for the upcoming year. This year we changed things up by holding this special event at a Monday noon meeting, rather than in the evening.

Australian Group Study Exchange Picnic (May 2012) May 16, 2012 During their one month visit to our District 6250, the GSE Team from Australia (District 9640) spent a few days in the Chippewa Valley. On a beautiful Wednesday evening, Sara and Mike Antonson hosted a cookout. About 40 attended, including the five GSE Team Members. The evening included a couple of special presentations... a $250 check to David Baguley in support of the Team project to purchase fire equipment for a community in India, and Sara Antonson and Simon Brook exchanging Club Flags.

Kristina Skornidova's Welcome Reception Sep 8, 2009 We gathered at the home of Heidi and Andy Fisher to welcome Kristina Skornikova, our 2009-10 exchange student. Thanks to Heidi and Andy for hosting and providing a delicious buffet. Kristina arrived on August 25 from Turzovka, Slvakia and attends Memorial High School as a senior. She is living with the Dan and Lisa Mattoon family, and in January will move in with the Fisher's.

Their 288 foot ship, National Geographic’s Endeavour, can be seen in the lower left portion of the picture Tom and Jill Antarctic Expedition Jun 15, 2009 Tom Barland and his wife, Jill, toured the Antarctic Region by a 92 passenger National Geographic ship from February 7 through March 3, 2009. They visited places involved with Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ill-fated 1914 expedition, when he and his 27 men were trapped in sea ice and then on Elephant Island awaiting rescue for a total of 20 months. They also hiked the last four miles of Shackleton’s famous 26 mile climb over the South Georgia Mountains to a whaling station to secure a ship to rescue all his men.

Their visit included vocational trips, some site-seeing, and a presentation at our Monday Rotary meeting.

Christmas Luncheon (December 2008) Dec 8, 2008 65 Rotarians and guests took a break from their Monday routine to enjoy our annual Christmas Luncheon at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club. After some hot apple cider, fellowship, and a delicious meal, they were entertained by members of the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild who performed a few musical numbers from the “Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical”. Thank you to Angela Hite for planning the event and to the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild for the entertainment.

Many thanks to Tom and Darla for hosting and providing such an exquisite and delicious spread. Kevin arrived on August 25 from Soufflenheim, France and attends Memorial High School as a senior. In late July, Thea returned to her home country of Denmark. On hand to greet her was her family and our Club's Youth Exchange Counselor, Robin Shih, who happend to be in Denmark on a business trip.
